Online Adoption Education

Adoption education is useful for families adopting domestically or internationally, as it provides exposure to a variety of situations that can arise either during the adoption process or after the child comes home. Families often appreciate knowing what issues are common in adoption and having some knowledge of how to handle those situations.

For families adopting domestically or internationally, ASC recommends the resources available at www.empoweredtoconnect.org. These resources include articles, blogs, and videos on a variety of topics related to adoption and adoptive parenting. Many families have found the resources available on this site to be very helpful and encouraging during their adoption journey.

For families adopting from Hague Convention countries, the United States requires families to complete a minimum of ten hours of Hague-approved adoption training. These training requirements can be fulfilled primarily through reading books or through the completion of online courses. If you are adopting through ASC’s Colombia adoption program, please consult with your caseworker prior to beginning an adoption education program. The following are some providers of Hague-approved adoption education:
