Applicants to adopt from Colombia should be over 25 years of age and couples must be married for a minimum of one year. Single female applicants are also eligible, and non-Colombian single women must be open to a child seven years of age or older ICBF utilizes the following guidelines for matching children with adoptive parents, according to the average age of a married couple:
Ages 25-40: qualify for a newborn-2 years of age (0-35 months)
Ages 41-45: qualify for a child 3-4 years of age (36-59 months)
Ages 46-50: qualify for a child 5-6 years of age (60-83 months)
Ages 51 and older: qualify for a child 7 years or older
Applicants must be physically, emotionally, and economically capable of supporting the child or children they hope to adopt. Colombia has respect for birth order within an adoptive family, and in some cases a family may qualify for a child younger than the age guidelines listed above due to the age of children already in their home.
